A great many women do go bald.

It's all to do with the levels of free testosterone which causes hairiness over most of the body and baldness on the top of the head.

Most women who have moustache and beard growth and/or balding are desperate to conceal the fact. The reality is that there's a considerable overlap in hair growth patterns between men and women and after menopause most women start experiencing, if they haven't had it before, moustache and beard growth and male pattern baldness.

It's the testerone. Some women do go bald - in particular, those that suffer from a hormonal condition or PCOS. Trust me, it is much tougher for the women in this case. We see bald men all the time, but a balding woman is not socially acceptable. I think men care about their baldness more than society actually does. It's much more acceptable. Especially, because a lot of men shave their heads when they start to go bald (ie. Daman Wayans, Montel Williams, Keith Ablow).

testosterone makes men go bald, then there's also male pattern baldness which is attributed to the y chromosome. there is also female pattern baldness, but it is more of a thinning of the hair on the scalp rather than actual baldness.

Women do have patterned baldness, just not as bad as men.
Many women have the bald spot on the crown of their heads and in the front but because we wear our hair long we can cover better.
As women age, many of us have extremely thinning hair.

Because women have lower levels of testosterone. Once they go through "the change" (menopause), their testosterone rises. The genetic causes of pattern baldness are supressed by progesterone and estrogin, and aggravated by the higher levels of testosterone.

Fun Fact: If you want to know if you'll keep your hair, look to yor mother's brothers and/or her mother's brothers. If there's a flock of cueballs, you're gonna join 'em. If there's flowing locks abound, you'll keep your hair.

its because of the levels of testosterone that men have thay they go bald.
Although women have some testosterone in their bodies, they dont have as much as men and therefore, rarely go bald.

It has something to do with the hormones in our body. Women got hormones like Progesterone and Estrogen, while we men have testosterone.
