It changed as I grew up but Whinnie the Pooh (A.A. Milne) has ALWAYS been there. Others include:
The Muddle Headed Wombat (Ruth Parke)
The Narnia Chronicals (C.S. Lewis)
Dinotopia (James Gurney)
The Temper Tantrum Book
What To Do With a Kangaroo
some Enid Blyton book and anything by Roald Dahl were also good reads.
I don't have children but the kids I've babysat I've introduced to some of these.

Th Hobbit, my dad read it to me and I have loved it ever since.
He tried to read Lord of the Rings but I was too younge. I did read it and in total I read it about 12 times. Then the movie came out. Well everyone knows the rest.
