The Blackhawks are an embarrassment as an Original 6 team. I mean people expect the new expansion teams to suck for a while (Columbus, anyone?), but it's sad that a team with such history is basically nonexistent. Their stadium is always empty - a shame for such a large market - and they can't get a winning season to save their lives. It's too bad, as Chicago could be a great hockey city.

Easily my beloved Flyers because we get promises every year, retreads of the Stanley Cup winning teams of the seventies, the building gets filled every game, jerseys and merchandise get sold, and only two Cups to show for it. The philosophy has not changed as indicated below, and like all extinct organisms, failure to adapt spells the worst.

Since the late 80s, the New York Islanders have been pretty clueless under Wang & Milbury. They gave up early on players like Chara, Bertuzzi & Luongo. They invested too much money in Yashin who wasn't even a top-30 player in the league. Before that, wasn't it Linden and who else?

The Islanders made some progress lately by aqcuring Smyth. Then they beat out MON,TOR & CAR for the 8th playoff seed. I just seem to think that New York should have performed much better in the 90s/00s considering all the high draft picks due to missing the playoffs every year. Chicago & Phoenix are the other 2 teams just as bad. I recall seeing Toronto being semi-competitive for some stretches & Phili was solid until this past season.

Based on your criteria, I would have to say the Maple Leafs...by a nose versus Chicago and Phoenix. Most of the other suggested suitors have actually won cups in the last 30 years. The Maple Leafs have an arrogant GM who has downgraded their talent level since taking over...whoever thought Raycroft would take them to the next level that Belfour couldn't was nuts. As for the fans, if you ever watch a game on television you realize that only corporates can attend as the seats are usually empty when the periods start...no fans there. Consistently losing...well, they did have a bit of a peak in the 1990s, but prior to that...the Ballard Years...they were horrid boasting such stars as Salming and Bester.

Were you to adjust your criteria and say simply worst franchise...then I would say Phoenix as who wants to watch hockey in Arizona beyond the few hardcore fans they might have? Possibly the worst idea an NHL owner ever had was taking that team out of Winnipeg. Second worst might be the attempted revival of the NHL in Atlanta...didn't work the first time, either.

blackhawks.

bad arena- the United Center will never be as good as the old chicago stadium, period

poor fan treatment- no poor fan treatment bcuz there r no fans. and the few that they have (like me) hate Wirtz's guts, so they dont like the team

Consistent losing seasons- The Hawks have made the playoffs 1 time in the past 11 or 12 seasons. that is a rare feat to accomplish in any sport. they have the best team this year, with the additions of Samsonov, Toews, and the first overall draft pick. the young players are only getting better (hopefully) so mabe its time to sneak in the 8th seed (doubtful)

that is stressful to assert. I bear in mind analyzing the hockey information final 12 months and quite a few human beings have been finding out on the Flyers to win the Cup, so a team with that lots expertise getting back from a three-0 deficit don't have been a marvel. comparable with this 12 months, Chicago IS the protecting Cup champions, they nevertheless have their suited 4 defencemen and 5 of their suited 6 forwards from final 12 months. they are an experienced team. they have additionally had Vancouver's variety on condition that Luongo joined the team.

How do the Flyers have consistent losing seasons? One losing season in the past 10 years and now they are the worst organization?
That title belongs to the Coyotes.

Phoenix Coyotes only 10 winning seasons and no cups in 28 seasons, while the blackhawks had made 10 trips to the Stanley cup and won 3 cups and the rangers have made it to 9 times and won 4 cups. those were winning seasons and the blackhawks and the rangers have more winning seasons then the Phoenix Coyotes will ever have.
