I just answered the phone, and it was one of them rubbish calls where it takes ages to connect then someone with a very bad accent begins to speak '

Him: "Hello is that Mr (my dads name)?

Me: "No. Hes not here"

Him: "Ok, is this a friend or family member?

Me: "Yes"

Him: "Ok, because we are offering you a phone, on contract or pay as you go"...blah blah (he went on and on talking really fast in a foreign accent)..

Me: "You're offering me what?"

Him: "A phone...blah blah blah"

Me: "Oh, no, Im not interested thanks"

Him: "How can you not be interested? You must be interested"

Me: "NO, I'm not. I'm putting the phone down now."

Him: "I'll call you again"

Me: "No you wont or I'll report you."

Him: "I'll report you too"

Me: "For what?"

Him: "For being abusive"

At that point I put the phone down. I thought WTF! I've never had that before, but it annoyed me so much that he said he'd keep calling me. Can he actually do anything? and what can i do?

They can't do bugger all as they haven't informed you that they are taping the call and have no proof to show that you were abusive. (You weren't of course).
Don't wory about it - I sometimes get quite a bit of pleasure when they call as If i'm in a bad mood I REALLY let rip if they call me more than once and I've already said no... Try it - relieve your stress. It's cheaper than counselling.

They're annoying more than anything else and can't do anything.

If they call again, just tell them if you wanted a phone, you'd go buy one yourself.

Or, better yet, do what I did once when he wouldn't take the hint-let him go through the whole sales pitch, and then ask him if he'd like to buy a bucket with a hole in.

for the first time EVER, they hung up on me, lol!!

Register with the phone preference service via B.T the volume of cold callers will fall dramatically. Also never provide your home phone number details on any forms etc ,just give your mobile ,companies are less likely to call as it costs them more.

You can have fun with calls like that. Just talk jibberish and go off on wild tangents, see how long it takes for them to hang up. Or just ask BT to block those sort of calls.

Just don't even begin the conversation. As soon as I hear (usually) an indian or pakistani accent I just put the phone down strainght away. All I hear is "Hello, is that...."and then I put the phone down. Simple.
Just ignore the idiot.

That's happened to me before to, they said they'll just call again and they never did. They really can't do that because it's a solicitation call, and they are probably just saying that because they work on commission and are desperate for a sale. If he keeps bothering you, call the manager!

Woaaaaaahh.. weeird. It probably was a prank. Can you not phone the number back? see how they answer if it's casual or " this is. *companies name* " .. the minute you said " im not interested" they shouldv'e backed off and said goodbye. I dunno... it sounds like a prank. But ya.. caller ID would be good too. hope i helped. haha
