Our government doesn't value education. We are a military might, and as such, we require hundreds of thousands of citizens with subpar intelligence to fill in the ranks of infantry and die for the greater good of the country.

Capitalism doesn't focus on education. We focus on making the rich richer, and keeping the poor the way they are: on the battlefield.

I'm not sure how you define stupid, but will try to answer your question.

Our population is now somewhere between 300 million and 400 million. If the worldwide average percentage of stupid people was ten percent that would be 30 to 40 million stupid Americans. Now, I don't know if that percentage is anywhere near accurate, but any percentage translates to some big numbers.

Now, getting down to what I think you really mean, I think many Americans are too reluctant to examine issues for themselves, leaving them rather easily led when it comes to forming social and political opinions. Obviously, you define stupid in a way that people who don't agree with you are stupid. Whether that is a fair definition or not I cannot say, because I don't know what we would have to believe to agree with you.

I know many people who are very intelligent, including many who don't agree with me on a lot of issues. I don't think disagreement makes them stupid. Some of them have formed their opinions based on arguments or sources I would challenge, but that still doesn't make them stupid.

Thinking, studying, learning the issues is rather hard work. It also may mean considering arguments or ideas with which we disagree or which we distrust. That means putting aside prejudices for a little while and being objective. Again that is difficult, and it can be hard work.

Many Americans have developed their opinions and ideas from watching television. Unfortunately, that almost guarantees intellectual laziness. Most of my ideas and opinions have been formed from reading or studying, with some support from radio and television. I have reached a point in which there is very little that I accept without question.

I don't know if I have answered your question or not, but I hope I might have at least touched on part of the answer. I think you might ask the same question about any national group in the world, and there would be different answers. Many have been denied information that would help them learn. We Americans are not denied information, but many of us lack the ability to process and digest it.

One factor is inbreeding but you get that with gypsies in europe. I guess it could be that we started takeing shortcuts in everything we do. Most us Americans seem to want everything done fast. Microwave ovens, fast food, shopping online, miricle weight loss pills, plastic surgery, remote car starters. Its makeing us physicaly lazy and unhealthy wich from an unhealth body you get an unhealthy mind. Wev are slowly killing ourselves this way and its starting to spread. England is next. I hear the chavs there are pretty stupid like a whole species of Kevin Federlines and Britneys.

I for one am trying to be less lazy and since I've started exercising my veiw on the world has been changing. I am not wowed by any new fads even video games have lost their lust to me. I actualy started reading again after 10 years of not picking up a book.

There is hope my friend we just need time and good examples of how to live.

If you think that it's just Americans that are stupid, then your a mental midget yourself. I've been to many countries, and found that stupidity is everywhere. So maybe you should wait till you grow up before asking big boy questions!
