The best thing i did when starting my business was to do a short business planning course.
It covered all the basics like health & safety, legal stuff, marketing, customers, breaking even, keeping financial records etc
You could even do one by distance learning to make it fit into your life!
You should research all these things in turn and then write down your findings - you can use this to create a business plan.
Cobweb produce business opportunity profiles which are excellent and tell you about your likely customers, the best ways of promoting that type of business etc etc - they have ones for Massage Therapist and Sports Physiotherapist which would be really good for you to read. You can buy then online here http://www.scavenger.net/product.php?productid=2147&cat=143&page=1 and http://www.scavenger.net/product.php?productid=2092&cat=118&page=2 but they cost £6 each, or you can usually get a copy free of charge from your local business link office http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/directory?r.s=h
For general business advice i have listed some of the best sites below:

i started my own joinery business a couple of years ago, i found it was easiest to visit the citizens advice centre, there are loads around the uk.

they put me in contact with some other local businesses who were really happy to help me.

make sure u have your capital, i thought i had enough to start up but i was very wrong, the banks are quite good as well though.

insurance and things like that are a lot but dont let that put u off.

IT IS WORTH IT IN THE END!!!!
