It all depends on the culture the education is being learned in.
In individualistic cultures education is learning the ability to think criticaly and be independent and encourage inovation.
In collectivist cultures it is to be a harmonious group member and a team.

If that's what you think. Though, I don't know if I should say this is my own thoughts, but I'd say discipline is not the end of education; rather the beginning, and must be maintained throughout the times of learning and practising new things. One can't really have creative minds without knowing something first.

The goals of education are to develop the mind's ability to be creative and to think in an organized fashion, not to fill the mind with facts and ideas and thoughts of other people.
