there are attempts all over the world, especially by the scientific community to simply explain away religion by theories and discoveries. sometimes i see it puzzling though. thus if science is all about truths and facts about the world, then certain truths and facts as fundamental as they are, are undermined by scientists. once, the world all over believed the earth was flat, but the Bible writer Job, for some 5000 or so years back spoke about the earth as 'round', 'circle'. another one is the hydrological cycle as described also by the Bible in times past where no nothing of the cycle was known to man. Scientists must be unbiased in dealing with the truth, at least one assumption is that science always follows the course of the truth no matter where it leads. yes it leads to bible. but they wont simply begin with that. its pitiful

Science cannot explain away religion or the existence of God any more than a statue can explain away the existence of a sculptor. Additionally, keep in mind that the "truths" of science constantly change as time passes and more knowledge is gained. Scientific theories are hugged and subsequently abandoned more often than Liz Taylor was married. "...but the word of the Lord remains forever."

Both science and religion have their problems with truth. Believing is no solution to man's problems because we can and do believe most anything.

Science's first problem is it cannot explain away religion because it is mostly a reaction to Christianity. Scientist will be the first to reject of this idea but the failure to identify truth is nothing new in the course of human thinking.

Science rejected self authority because religion abused it so badly with megalomaniac beliefs. The resulting objectiveness has permeated nearly the whole of educated intellectuality by excluding the authority of the self for an imagined authority of scientific method in science and objectivity in educated intellectual discourse whose imagine authority rests in the assumption of consensus.

The problem of this is truth becomes a statistical game set apart from the true base of genuine rationality, the individual. This means our focus becomes how to influence the social scene for imagined theories for creating utopias. The individual must just cope with information unrelated to making individuals better. We have become effectively disconnected from ourselves.

The self is always in the seat of authority. The course of any society is determined by the actions of individuals. If beliefs, (self-exclusive) objectivity or statistics run rampant as they do today we have no rational means of determining what is important.

Science cannot explain God away. The big misunderstanding starts with how religions insist otherwise
For example, people who take things in the bible as scientific fact will be the ones who will say that science is incompatible with religion.

In fact, mystics in India seem to have united science and religion. The book Tao of Physics show how science and spirituality are one.

Any and all religion can be explained away, once another religion comes about that dispels the falshoods of that older and previous religion. I would say this has never happened in our history though. Most religions were abandoned when an enemy tribe or race took over a civilization. Then their religon must be adhered to. Take for instance the belief in the Earth Mother, it was the longest held religion, then a race of individuals killed off many of those followers and insisted on the survivors that God was a male form and not a female form.
Thankfully with the creation of technology, we are being made aware of many religions, we are given choices today when in the past religion was only forced upon you, if you didn't believe, well, you were made to meet your maker.
The biggest concern of religion today is control. Government bodies in all countries control the populus with religious doctrines. To keep fear within people is to keep control of people, keeping like sheep, to be lead in the direction they choose for them to follow.
Today, we have people becoming aware of this control, and they leave the controlled religion and seek only spiritual meanings, now that's advancement, to stop being lead, but to be the leader of themselves with utmost Godly intent with lack of fear driven followings.

The Bible and valid science line up completely. For example, the theory of Continental Drift corresponds exactly with the story of the tower of Babel in Genesis, during the days of Peleg. All the earth was of one language, and everybody lived in Shinar (modern-day Iraq). God confused the language, and those who could understand each other formed up into groups, separated, and then the super-continent of Pangaea broke apart, with Continental Drift continuing to this day which will happen until the super-continent is restored as the Bible teaches. The Bible also speaks clearly of the days of antiquity, and even goes so far as to say, "Is there [any] thing whereof it may be said? See this [is] new. It hath already been of old time, which was before us. There is no remembrance of former [things]; neither shall there be [any] remembrance of [things] that are to come with [those] that shall come after." What this passage from Ecclesiastes tells us is that the earth is very, very old -- and further -- "generations (the word translated [generations] here is a reference to ages, much like the word [aeon] in the New Testament translated [world]) come and go, yet the earth abides forever." And for you to say that science proves that humanity evolved from single-cell organisms is actually a religious (deist) statement of faith, which can neither be proven nor disproven. Very few people recognize Darwin's works for what they are -- religious manifestos written to support his deist faith; and because they are disguised falsely as so-called science, he has made many converts to and disciples of his religion. And always remember my favorite Proverb: "Even a fool is counted wise as long as he remains silent; but his true nature is revealed when he opens his mouth." My second favorite is, "It is good not to strive since even a fool can start an argument."

No, science can never explain religion away. Science was there from the first place to try and figure out how God runs the whole world.

Science and technology have explained away religion so many times it's not funny. Problem is religious people have no interest in truth, only faith.

If the science community will spend their time trying to discover a cure for AIDS then they might save many lives, rather than wasting their time on things that not all people will agree.

The answer to this question depends on which type of person you are and the things YOU believe in.

Some people are harder to convince than others. Some have already forsaken God, while others cling to the little information we have on Him and His existence.

You believe what you think is right...time will reveal all secrets...

Me? I'll go with God...

Isn't religion itself a bias? Christianty says there is creation while Buddhism believes the world evolved.
