I quite agree, I have often been nearly bowled over by people riding up behind me. The law states that councils can issue fines for anyone doing this - I wish they would!

I must admit, I also sometimes cycle on the pavement. It is not me thinking I am going to inconvenient someone walking towards me, etc. It is just that sometimes it is safer. Thankfully were I live there are a lot of cycle paths and some of the wider pavements have also recently been turned in to a cycle and foot path.

To be honest I don't much care for people walking their dogs on the pavement. Also I often see people walking on the cycle path.
My pet hate about cyclists (and I cycle myself) are the ones that think they can been seen in the dark with out lights on their bikes, that should be more of a concern then people cycling on the pavement.

i might trust Alex who provides a properly built answer. although just to function that in spite of in case you have very of course defined cycle paths you will nevertheless get nit wits who wander in the time of them or stroll in them without theory to the cyclists attempting to apply them. around the place I stay somebody had the super thought to make the roads so narrow (with the aid of including a bus lane) that cyclists could proportion the pavement with peds. this would properly be a recipe for catastrophe and that i will often holiday interior the bus lane particularly than using the so talked approximately as cycle direction. There are quite good provisions for cyclists who in simple terms desire a entertainment pursuit alongside with wooded area trails yet this would not help the brave few attempting to holiday to paintings.

You seen how dangerous it is to be on the raods nowadays as people consider road rules whatever anyone with respect ie is hard enough to fight anyone who questions them thinks they can do?

who dont care about hurting others.

My rule for cycling on the pavements is go slow and consider pedestraians and go on the road where its safer where you can go faster.

you need to look in real terms that cyclists go on pavements due to the danger on the road and many go slow...

its the idiots who go fast or skip red lights etc that are your problems

Could barely understand the statement. But, I think there should be assigned areas to ride and no other place. It slows traffic and causes problems on the highway.

I sometimes ride on the path if the traffic is too congested, not because its more convenient but because its safter. Plus theres a road sign on my road that says "66 injuries in the last 3 years" which reminds me not to trust motorists one bit.
