Well, for my kids, group dates are fine at 14, like to movies and dances and such. At 16 they will be allowed to bring a date if we go out to eat or to the movies as a family. Depending on their behavior then, and their maturity level, late 16 or 17 will be appropriate for 'alone' dates.

I'm sorry but whether the parents like it or not once they are 13 or 14 they are DEFINETLY dating. Even if you think they're not....THEY ARE!!!! they may be lying to you about which people they're with unless you have a very open relationship with your child. I think girls like boys before boys like girls. Even at 4 and 5 if they are around boys, the girls say they have "boyfriends" or sometimes that they're "married" it's just a natural thing.

I think if you're going to seriously date, you should be fifteen or sixteen...it depends what your definition of dating is, though. At my friends school, twelve and thirteen-year-olds are being friends with the opposite gender, hanging out with that person, and getting them gifts, and they call it "dating". Sounds more like a normal friendship, doesn't it? It's better to become good friends with both genders and that way you'll know people when you finally get into high school. Thanks!

I am not going to let my kids seriously date anyone - like have a "boyfriend" until they are 16. It's okay to go out with a group of people to the movies or a dance, I don't want them to be total nerds, but I feel they should focus on themselves and their studies before the opposite sex. You've got your whole life to deal with that crap - look in the Marriage and Divorce section.

Well... I would say that both guys and girls should be allowed to date when they are 16. Going out as a group and hanging out with a group of friends... hmm... I would say... 14.

I think 30 is a good age. Otherwise, all those years you could be saving the earth or making lots of money or doing whatever your goals are, will be wasted trying to work on a relationship. They're a lot of work.
