They are all complex and painful - and anyone who tells you differently is trying to sell you something :)

Blogging software is probably the easiest - something like Wordpress or Movable Type

After that, try Joomla or Drupal

Use google to track them down.

All CMS require a "learning" curve. Most are similar in what they supply. The main differences are in the templating (how the pages look) in the administration (how you get to features, membership management, page editing, etc).

The main question is what do you want your CMS to do for you and what are you comfortable with working with. PHP, Java, ASP, etc. All will require a knowledge of an active content language.
Several good ones

Alfresco
Joomla
Drupal
PhpWebsite

Alfresco probably offers the most power of all but it is complex for the admin.

Try this one.

You can find out for yourself. Just build the site from the predefined templates. Then, login and make changes. You can even use live chat support. Best of all, it doesn't cost anything to try and you can build as many sites as you like.

You get:
Integrated Maps and driving directions
Forms and database integration
Language Translator
Chat integration
Various calculators (mortgage, savings, etc.)

The list goes on and on. Bottom line, give it a try and find out for yourself.
