Why in the world would anybody think Bonds should go to the All Star game? I'm trying to figure out what he is doing to have an all star year. Outside of chasing Aaron's homerun record and taking walks (and striking out, and grounding out, and hitting really long singles that should be standup doubles) what is the guy doing? He is a HUGE liability in LF! He has no range, no arm, and his team is suffering for it! Being an all star involves more than hitting an occasional homerun and being on Sports Center everynight. 10 years ago, Bonds was probably the best in baseball; now he's a china doll relic holding on to a once great career just to cement his own selfish legacy. No - he shouldn't go to the All Star game.

On the field, I have always been a Barry Bonds fan, until this steroid issue. There is no question that Barry would have made the HOF without steroids. He was the best player of his generation. And I said that ten years ago.
The man is somewhat of a racist. The man did illegal drugs. He's not a particularly nice guy. He's all of that. But he is NOT overrated. A small portion of his career is tainted and rightfully so. But when he was clean, he was the greatest player since The Mick. And if you knew how much a kid growing up in the mid fifties loved Mickey Mantle, you would know what a compliment that is.
Now, should he go to the AS game this season based upon production? No. His stats this season do not warrant the honor. But since the game is in his home park, and he will probably be the HR king, tainted or not, by the time the AS game is played, and because media loves this kind of stuff, yes, he WILL be there. And I have to say that when you put his career in perspective, it's an honor that he deserves. Like him or hate him.

I don't like Barry Bonds at all. But I still think he should play in the game. My personal opinion of him shouldn't matter.
He's one of the biggest names in baseball, and that's what the All-Star Game is really all about.

Nope.
Just look at his stats. He should not be on the All-Star team because he is not a All-Star.
He has a batting AVG of .287, with 14 HR, and 7 2B. But he has no defensive skills at all. As you can see, his stats are good, but he is not a All-Star.

Yes, sure. It's his home park, it'll probably be his last one, he's having a good season, he's certainly had a good career to date, and he's a walking headline. How petty and vindictive do the haters have to be, to deny him a spotlight exhibition game? He'll bat twice and be out, like everyone else.
Anyway, you know Fox wants him there. He makes for good television, whether or not fans like him.

NOOOOOO!he is overrated and a cheater. almost all the OFs (except him) on the ballot have made clutch hits or diving catches to win the game. he uses steroids to hit HRs. he has had so many steroids he can't hit or catch.

i think he is proving all of the doubters wrong he is still hitting homeruns and he is moving closer to Hank Aarons record, and he still hasn't tested positive for steroids. Get over it.
