what format do movies have to be to burn onto dvd?

they have to b vob fomatt & there must b a menue for them too.if u want the dvd b playable in dvd player but if its not important for u & u play it in ur pc then u can write anything with any formatt by dvd data.

They have to be a specific type of mpeg file.

There are tons of programs that will help you re-encode a video file to burn to dvd.
