The fish was very well looked after and was fine till yesterday. During the afternoon i noticed he was swimming around and around the tank quite fast. He died quietly this morning. I have six others who i am worried about.

This is highly important my mom found this out the hard way. Have you washed the tank? I mean scrubbing it down soap and water inside and out? There is something in soap that does not wash out even when you think it is all washed out, it somehow soaks in the rubber molding, this will kill fish after you put clean water back in the tank because you can't see the contaminants from the soap that leached into the rubber sealant.
She used to see the tank getting all green, take the fish out and put them safely in a bowl of water while she scrubbed the tank clean, then rinsed it out real good, (but apparently not good enough). She would put the fish back in but they would die off later, she always wondered why, until a veterinarian said never do that with a four sided tank, for the very reasons I just said. He said far better to get an alga eater, so the next time we had gold fish, they lived very long lives and so did our alga eater too.

This sounds like there could be a problem with the water in the tank. Have you checked the temperature of the water? Ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate levels? If you don't have the ability to test for these, do a 25% water change to be safe. Six goldfish in any tank will produce a lot of waste, and he may be new, or just more sensitive to this than the others. One good sign that there's a problem is if you see any of the fish gasping at the surface as though they don't have enough air. if you have a pet store convenient to your home, you may want to take a sample of your tank water and have it tested. You may need to perform a series of water changes rather than one if any of the levels are high.

it could have been anything, depending on how old he was when you got him, and what his old tank was like.

It could have been similar to a stroke, or heart-arrest, or anything.
If oyu are concerned, quarantine all your goldfish to a sperate zone and thoroughly clean out the tank, make sure the PH levels are perfect before you re-introduce the fish. Don't get anymore fish until you eliminate the possibility that something in yourtank environment is causin it.

However, It probably was just the fish, and not an outside influence.
Sorry about the little bubbly-fish, I hope your others live happy and long lives.

depends onhow old your gold fish was. my boyfriend keeps tropical fish however he has kept goldfish before did you notice if there was any wee white spots on the fish if there was even though your other fish may not have any a good white spot cleaner wil deal with and also if the fish did die of a diecease then putting some white spot treatment in the tank should clear anything up then you wont have to worry about your other fish.

Some have already suggested that there's something fishy arye however i feel you may have 'battered' it or maybe even it was just a red herring, anyway just consider it's probably having a 'whale' of a time in heaven.
But on a serious note it might be an idea to go back to the vendors as they may be better qualified to give you a more satisfactory answer, as it could be any number of things even their environment. good luck and take care.

I dont know the condition of your tank. But Gold Fishes ONLY get along with other goldfishes. Donot club them with any other variety of fish or they'll die.
I think i have solved your mystery mail me for more info.

Put a speed camera in the tank, this will deter the others from doing the same.
