My notebook is HP Compaq Presario X1315 with preinstalled 256 MB of RAM. I'm thinking of upgrading the RAM to 1GB, so I'm now shopping around for RAMs in the market. My preinstalled RAM's specs are as follows:

DDR RAM, 266 MHz, 256 MB.

After shopping around for some time, I found that most shops sell the DDR RAM type with 400 MHz. Does the MHz thing matter? Is the MHz necessary to be the same as the preinstalled one? Are there other compatibility issues to consider when upgrading RAM?

The speed will be no problem, your system will automatically slow the RAM down to the appropriate speed. The one thing you do need to be sure of is that your board can support RAM sticks of that size. That information should be in the manual, if not, go to the HP website under support.
