Why did Gary Numan receive so little respect back in his day? when today he is credited as an influence by so many musicians.

He was ahead of his time and thusly under-appreciated completely. I think now people understand his vision more, and now his music as stood the test of time without fading into obscurity.

Here in my car I am wiping off blood, some of it's mine but most of it's not.
Or you could go with the damned's Gay Bars. Hey Gary is a nice Guy but stealing Bowie's berlin look as a career. Anyway I suggest you find a copy of Ultravox's"Island Years" Where Gary's collaborator cut his teeth. If you are a Numanite This was where the sound came from: see also-Visage!

Gives a whole new meaning to,

Credit Cars, doesn't it?

< See, this is a take on humor. No laughtrack
provided, as I believe in not insulting one's
audience.

You (the readers) ARE being audient, aren't you?

Ok, I'll answer. Agreed. Time and again, I've read
different musicians list the Gar-ster as someone
who expanded their horizons not merely
through technique, but by the unspoken
(unsung?--ironically) views they'd envisioned
or internalized while listening to his work.

I still have my 45 of "Cars", still a cool song. Trouble is, here in the states anyway, he was a one-hit wonder; thus, he was quickly forgotten when monstrously popular acts like the Police, Duran Duran, and Michael Jackson came along.

He wasn't 'cool' back then..I liked "Are Friends Electric?" and "Down in the Park"..he got slagged for "Cars" for good reason..but "Music for Cameleons" and "The old 30s Rust" some years later were genious..just not fashionable enough and I can see their point, but the music speaks for itself in the end.

I don't think he liked being in the limelight, he was a very private person. Although an excellent performer, I must agree.

I thought musically he was gifted, but I don't believe he could sing as well as he thinks.

Replicas, Pleasure Principle, telekon are all fantastic plus his previous stuff to Replicas.
