I am setting up a wedding car hire business and need to know wether I need a public hire licence, i hope to do wedding hires but also proms, anniversarys and maybe race days and airport runs, all jobs will obviously be booked in advance, please help. ( England based company)

You don't need a Public Hire Licence. That is for a vehicle which is available to be hailed in the street (London Black Cabs, bus etc)
You need a Private Hire Licence if your vehicle can carry less than 9 passengers.

Contact your local council. They have a taxi/cab/private hire licencing department who will help you.

Private Hire maybe. Would be controlled by your local council so ask them (phone book).

Yes, you do need that licence. Plus you have to have a licence for yourself. it is cost a lot so think carefully. Contact your council where you want to start your business.
