She has started making a funny noise when I pick her up sometimes and she did it this morning when I took my jumpa away from her because she was trying to eat it!!! The only way I could possibly describe it is like a groany hicupy sound??? Does this mean she is angry??? I really want her to be happy but im starting to wonder if I cant give her the home she needs? Also has anyone in the UK heard of John Watson who is a rabbit breeder? If so any good/bad comments welcome!! Thanks very much!!

As some people mentioned, it could be a growl, but normally they will growl not after you've picked them up but before. I think it is something else.

To me, it sounds like your rabbit probably has a breathing problem. When you lift your rabbit up next time or when you have it on a table. Lean your head down and listen closely to see if the sound is coming from the rabbit's chest. The way you described that noise sounds very similar to the sounds rabbits make when they are having a breathing problem. I say breathing problem in general, because it could be one of several possible things causing the breathing problem, such as:

1.) pneumonia
2.) a cold
3.) a chest cavity not formed like it should be - sometimes called pigeon breast, where the chest of the rabbit feels thin and narrow, not allowing it to breathe properly

The reason why you normally notice it when you go to pick them up is because exerting pressure on the chest makes it harder for them to breathe when they have a breathing problem and the symptoms become more audible because the rabbit is straining harder to breathe.

I recommend taking your bunny to the vet and getting it checked out.

Check with your vet to see if there is a medical problem. Many animals will eat odd things, things not good for them, for different reasons. Keep as much out of her reach as possible. Cats will eat things if they have a hairball. The rabbit we had did also. It made strange noises if it was hurting (a neighbor's dog knocked her cage over, and she was tumbled around...we took her to the vet and she was all right, just sore)

despite popular belief, rabbits do make noise. she could have been showing some displeasure, but if she didn't charge at you, pin her ears down or bare her teeth, she might have just been surprised or maybe you grabbed her in a bad spot. if she was really angry, she would have made more of a growling sound. my rabbit also "whimpers" when i take her away from something like a hole that she is digging or if I scold her

Here's a great site on buns, and here's a list of behavior meanings. Sounds like she was getting mad, she may not like being handled. Just give her some time, and show her lots of attention.

It seems to me you have a spoiled bunny. She is displeased when you dont let her do what she wants.
The noise she is making is a growl. Mine do that when they dont want to be touched or if you try and take their food away.

When she does that dont let her get what she wants.
