Yes, Rodman used t lead the league with rebound
with 17 or 19 per game, and scored only 7 or 8.
It means the opponent does not get second chances
if the miss, and if you miss and get an offensive rebound
you get more chances. So you the opponent could shoot
good, and you can shoot bad, and still win.
Its also known as defense, and hustle.

Rebounds are pretty important. If your team doesn't get a rebound, that means the other team gets to shoot again. This increases the chance that they will score a basket against your team. The team with the most points wins.
I would probably not take the player that averages 3.5 points and 15 rebounds a game. I would replace him with a player that averages 15 points and 3.5 rebounds a game. You see what I just did there?

Yeah, Ben Wallace and Dennis Rodman were very important to their teams. Bill Russell won a bunch of MVPs in the 60's because he averaged over 20 rebounds a game, despite only averaging about 15 points a game. If you don't get the rebounds, then you are just giving the other team endless opportunities to score. Its always best to limit the other team to only one shot each time down the court.

because rebounds give u possession of the ball and if u dont have possesion then you cant score and if you get an offensive rebound then you give your team a second chance to score. rebounds are important because it mean the possesion has either changed or if the player to rebound is on the team that missed it resets the shot clock and gives them another 24 seconds to try to score. without rebounds the only way to take possesion of the ball would be by a steal, block, or if the opposing team makes the basket.

Simple. Rebounds give you possession of the ball for you to shoot and score points.
