Like you said it's your imagination. Limit your work and studies and give time for relaxation also. Go out and mingle with friends, go to cinema, watch movies at home, make good stuff for yourself and enjoy whatever you made it because you will like it no matter how the taste is... and so on.

Since you have a clear grasp of what you are experiencing, it would be easy for you deal with it.

You are aware it's just your imagination, then you should know that you are just getting worried. It doesn't matter if its because of stress or the fact that you are alone but haven't you given thought that almost all of the things you are worrying of don't materialize?

Just try to condition yourself that there's no one with you if you haven't seen one, even if you claim to hear or sense that someone is there. Always put into mind that these noises can't hurt you, and ofcourse, the best thing to do if you feel kind of scared is pray. Yes, it works.

Do these tips everyday and you'll see, you've overcome the fear before you even know it.

I get this all the time. Basically, I find a room with only one door and a window blind as well as some sort of weapon (Baseball bat, Rapier, y'know). I will station myself in a position where I can survey the entire room, as far from the door and window as possible. Get something to entertain yourself with and do it until you fall asleep even with the light on. Keep the windows closed; you never know if a face might suddenly be peering in.

Yeah, its rather cowardly. I'm wondering if I should brave it out some time. Yell, "Screw you" to the ghosts and ghouls.

I'm sorry to hear that.

It might be paranoia, and telling your family doctor will help so that she/he can refer you to a p-doctor (medications) to help you with this, this way they can help diagnose you if this is serious paranoia. Because I know there's paranoia where you ask yourself, "Is he cheating on me?", but there's also a paranoia you can't help that needs medical attention. First, they need to see if this is officially paranoia by diagnosing you.

Of course, I'm no expert, but I do know that paranoia can be treated with medication.

Or, if you are not diagnosed with paranoia, then blasting music, turning on all the lights, and TV should help. Try sleeping with the TV on and put the TV to sleep mode. Don't think about it. Keep your mind busy and tell yourself, "Don't think about it." But, I understand if it's hard to stop hearing "something" or some kind of noise.

Best wishes.. hey! How about a pet?! =) *woof* puppies!!

Lots of friends, a pet dog or cat, and TV. Many people have a problem with solitude.
Some parents train their children to be entertained by TV or ipods or computer games ALL the time, these kids cannot handle lack of stimuli.

Teach yourself to be comfortable with your own company or with only books for company. Listen to music.

Try keeping a radio on just loud enough for you to hear. If you have something to listen to, then your brain won't be wandering around looking for things to hear.
It's probably just the building settling that you're hearing, or things expanding/contracting with the heat or cool of the air.
