should I try to drain it with a needle or let it take care of itself?should I use a cold or warm compress to help the swelling and redness? If I have no symptoms of the flu; fever, aches, fatigue etc. can I let it heal and see what happens in the next few days or should I have it drained by the 14th day if it has not changed?

Well, as long as you do not have a fever then it is not infected. If you develop a fever then you need to go to the doctor immediately - if it is in the middle of the night then go to the ER. That could be a life threatening infection if it gets into your blood.
Also if there are red lines (streaks) coming away from it then you need to go to the doctor ASAP.
IMO you shouldn't try and drain it or do anything other than monitor it on your own. You will just be setting yourself up for another possible infection if you do it wrong.
When in doubt, check it out.

try to apply warm compress around it, i know it can swell up more, but since your blood vessels dilates when exposed to warm it means that the white blood cells can go to that area and attack the bacteria. . .so it would heal faster. you can also take some antibiotics for at least 5 days or 7 is much better. . . dont try to drain it with a needle unless its sterile!!!

another thing if the abscess was caused by a foreign material you really need to go to the a physicain. . . but if not you can take antibiotics such as Flucloxacillin or dicloxacillin these drugs are used to treat common abcesses caused by staph aurues the bacteris normally found on our skin. . .
and is the common causes of abscess. . .

interior the previous, I extremely have had stable success treating my canines with a betadine answer. blend betadine with sparkling water till the aggregate resembles iced tea. positioned the aggregate in a sprig bottle in case you may get one. thoroughly sparkling the part of debris and previous scabs with gently with a rag moist with heat water and spray the answer into the wound. extra is extra advantageous. The rigidity from the spray is sufficient to help loosen any further debris and that's stable adequate to get interior of any shallow punctures. If the wound is deep, you will prefer to bathe it with a q-tip or something. They key is to maintain it sparkling. I extremely have additionally positioned neosporin on good of wounds like this (after the batadine) and had stable effects. If the could gets contaminated, or very deep and looks to pass into the abdomen hollow area, there won't be any way around the vet.
