When I used to played football, hype always helped me. This technique may sound stupid, but it really works. I would bang my hands on my helmet and shout random lines to get myself cocky. Slapping my helmet would bring my adrenaline up and being cocky would boost my confidence. While on the sideline, I would bang helmets with my players and shout to the crowd trying to pump them up. In addition to all this, before the game I would get mad about something. Anything possible like the QB looked at me wrong or the RB hit my GF. Just something to get myself angry with the opponent. This really helped me and since you have muscles, you are intimidating to begin with! I hope I never run into you! lol.

Mean and tough are not as important as people think in football. You need to be "trained". Practice the fundamentals of d-line : move on movement, not on sound; learn and practice reading blocks and getting through them; reading the hands, stance, and eyes of the o-line. Nothing helped me as a linebacker as much as playing o-line did. If you know and understand what an o-lineman is trying to do , you can better counter it.
You can't learn agression or "mean", but you can become a smarter player. A "mean" player will bash heads with the o-line while the back runs by, a smart player will have read and shead the block in time to make the tackle.
Good luck this season

Defense is NOT about being mean.
Being mean gets you personal fouls and Unsportsmanlike Conduct calls.

As a D-lineman, you have to be the lion hunting for the gazelle. The hunt is on the moment you see that ball move.
A big hippo stands between you...and lunch....
You have to be hungry - hungry enough to get past the fat hippo and into the fresh meat.
If you're ALL MUSCLE, then what I hear you need is some technique for hippo fighting.
Rip, swim, push-pull, or plow driver...find out which works best against that hippo and use it more often than the others.

Two hippos will require a hip technique thats easy to learn.

Some people play with rage others play with a more buisness approach to the game. Intensity doesn't come from being angry as much as it does being wound up from the weight room and practices and lectures from your coaches. The really instense angry player is out there to destroy everything in sight and that works for some people. If you can't get angry than look at it as being just buisness. You got the size, speed, and skills to get the job done and that big lineman in front of ya can't stop ya. Some of the best players I played with had a real casual attitude on the field. Watching Ray Lewis's "In His Own Word's" on the NFL Network is pretty helpful in making you a more intense player.

No offense kid, but being mean on the football field should come naturally. This isn't something you ask someone how to do, it's something that comes natural. You don't take **** from the other team and make sure they remember who you are after the game is over. Don't let them push you around, remember you said you're huge. Use good technique and always play as if you're pissed off and they insulted you.

Do you mean u get mad and take it out on the other guy?
That's what I think you mean so I'll answer that.

Go for something personnal. Have a family member who passed away? Tell yourself the guy your lined up with he killed that person. Or anyone piss you off throughout the week picture that their who your facing in the game.

Imagion your man is everything you hate. Then try and crack up time and time again. That's what I do and it works for me.
Block every play as if your career depends upon it.

Dont give a darn wether you poke a eye out or anything. Take a thumb tack with you or something, I used to play running back and those freakin @$$ d linemen carried thumb tacks somehow and when I ran up the middle and got dog piled I got poked lol. It HURTS! Step on their hands and body parts, do dirty stuff that refs cant see! HIT EM HARD TOO BUDDY! If your up by 50 and you tackle someone that your pissed at then bring him down by his facemask HARD! You gotta be a warrior in this game!

Standard meaness doesn't translate well in football. Most can't see your face nor can they hear you. What you want to be is faster to the quarterback if it's a pass play and the runner if it's a run play. Play to tackle and strip the ball at the same time. Just go for your target and push the people out of your way.
