Yes. Well, sometimes. I have a vivid imagination. :)

Seriously, fear of the dark is only the capacity to imagine what COULD be there. That's why so many young children are afraid of it. We tell them, "There are no monsters under your bed. There is no such thing as ghosts," to calm their fears. But some adults retain the imagination to envision horrors - slimy hands reaching out of manhole covers, giant spiders down a dark alley. Not intellectually, of course, but emotionally, it generates a startle response.

Fear the dark children and fear it well. For all the nightmares of your mind have taken up residency in the dark. There are things not meant for human eyes that freely roam the dark, slithering and creeping across a dark dank world without sunlight or warmth and should some human stumble upon them ..... another missing person report. So fear it, always carry a light with you and remember, in the dark you're NOT at the top of the food chain. Come out and play little children, come into the cool night and play.

It's not the dark I used to be afraid of, but what was "inside" the dark. I think I've grown out of that phase of getting scared from watching horor movies. I'm 36 years old and it's just been in the last few years that I've overcome that fear. Maybe because having a 3 year old son has something to do with it. I am teaching him not to be afraid of the dark and to actually use the dark to fhis benefit.

I haven't had nightmares in the past year, so that has also helped me to overcome my "fear of the dark".

My opinion is poeple aren't affraid of the dark. However, people are affraid of what could be in the dark or what isn't there! And not just creatures (mythical or otherwise). People fear what they don't know and that could be as simple as not knowing the layout of a room. People also fear isolation and in darkness room size doesn't matter. Personally I have no fear of darkness but I hate walking where I can't see where my feet are going. I feel like I'm going to step off the edge of something or trip over.

No...i'm not afraid of the dark. I absolutely love the dark. I'm not a dark and gloomy person or anything, but i just love being in a dark room...makes me feel really comfortable

However, if i was all alone in the dark in a haunted house, that could be another story lol!

I am in love with the night. I have a little telescope and shiver on my deck and on the beach with it, gawking at Saturn's rings and such every night. The dark is soothing on my light-sensitive eyes, too. I like sunlight, but I love the pitch dark, cool world of darkness around me. I depend more on my hearing. What scares me is silence when there should not be silence. Bad things usually happen then.

The only reason to be afraid of darkness, are the hoods out there. That are waiting for an unsuspecting guy/girl to walk down their dark ally and jump out and rob him/her or worse.

So for safety it is good to stay in well lit areas, no not because of some vampire or boogiman but a real threat far worse: a hoodlum with a gun!

I am not afraid of the dark. In fact I feel very comfortable in the dark because I am light sensetive. Why? Because I do not have any negative experiences associated with darkness.
