I figure if I can ask a question of millions of random strangers on YA, I might as well try my luck with a wrong number just on the off chance that they might happen to have the information I am looking for. Why the heck not, I've already gotten them excited by ringing their phone anyway and if I learn something I haven't wasted the call.
I'm kidding, I hang up the phone like a scared little girl!

I apologize and tell them I have the wrong number. Most people are understanding but sometimes you get a total jerk who gives you attitude when you know if you had just hung up they would have either used * 69 or caller id and called you back to see who it was. Let's all just be nice to each other and cut us all some slack.
Sorry about my rant but this actually just happened to me today. The guy was just totally rude for no reason.

If possible, I hang up before the call connects so that I don't end up with some rude person on the other end. Others times, I'll get really creative. Sometimes, I ask for Bob. Other times, I've asked to place a take out order. Other times, I ask the person how they are doing just to confuse them. I soon hang up claiming I need to get busy on something and that I will see them later. It makes the person wonder for another week if they forgot some long lost friend they were supposed to meet for coffee that afternoon.

sometimes, if i'm calling a company and the person says only a hello, then i apologize for having the wrong number. I also might ask "Is this (name of business)"? and then apologize if it is not. i never just hang up, the person might think it's a prank call

I always apologize and say I have the wrong number. It's rude not to. And it is not a waste of their time to show a little respect.

I don't just hang up..usually I apologise and say I misdialed.
I don't like getting calls that nobody is there but you know they are there because the line is still open. Caller ID helps but a lot of times, it doesn't show anything but unknown caller, so it is a mystery.
No big deal, but it happens sometimes.

I just hang up and try again.
Funny story, one time I was in the neighborhood of one of my friends. I called and said, "Hello, Pam" She said, "Yes" " I said, "Hey you wanna go to the bar, I'm actually right outside your place right now" She says "What! Who is this?" I dialed the wrong number but her name was Pam too...strange. I must have freaked her out pretty good.
