Google the words jazz and hip hop. Genre was spawned by Gang Starr and its iconic DJ Premier in late 1980's. A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and Native Tongues family most resemble this style of beat. Also check out Digable Planets.

I'd suggest the DJ Jazzy Jeff albums. The Magnificent and the Return to the Magnificent are great albums that have good beats, good lyrics and memorable songs.
