NO! It puts a real strain on the relationship. There are some things about your friends and the way they think that may never come up or be part of your friendship. But sometimes in a business partnership you may have a rude awakening when you find out how they feel about business or money or who knows what. Unless you've know each other a long time and are very close I'd advise against. it.

It depends on the type of friendship.
I have one friend who I would consider going into business with, because she has the same values and priorties that I have. She understands what it is to sacrifice now to have more tomorrow, she has good people skills and is good with details. I don't like details but I'm more of a creative type.
In order to know if your friend will make a good business partner, you need to decide which traits you both need to have so there won't be a clash in values and ideals. Then decide what strenghts he/she will bring that you lack and vice versa. Then are you BOTH ready (emotionally) for the long-term committment? It will be like a marriage, both of you investing in something that is bigger than either of you.

No reason why not. My business partner and I are friends, but we both have different BEST friends.

if you and your friend can keep business and personal interests separate then it can succeed.

Usually, it is either ego or money that causes a rift between business partners. So, if you want to do business with a friend, make sure you have clear division of responsibilities and money, and both of you don't mind small ego hassles.
