I find myself doing the very same thing. Sometimes, I am hooked by the sheer ignorance of the questions and I know logicly I have no chance of changing that person's mind with one answer from a stranger. I have been repeatedly appalled by what is allowed to stay posted and what is deleted. Maybe I am looking for a reason to use my tongue as a weapon today because it is Father's Day and I miss my father and my husband, not to mention two wonderful grandfathers that my children never knew.

I give a hoot about the points, but I thought when I signed in that people would naturally gravitate to areas where they at least had a clue of a solution. Isn't that really the "point?" As for the one who thinks I am bitter, I have three chilren, not two, and I am filled with gratitude for the many blessings I have in my life. Nostalgic is probably the best word to describe my feelings today, and I know I will be better tomorrow, and bitterness is a waste of my time.

My husband passed away last year, and my father dyed 30 years ago. I am blessed to still have my mother and I gladly take care of her needs [minimal as she is very well for her age] in my home. I do not feel like dating, and do not assume every woman needs to rush out to replace a man. My husband's shoes would be hard to fill and I only had one father.

One personal flaw that I readily confess is that when I hurt, I am more likely to lash out. I guess I feel like I should have been past hurting over a Sunday set aside for fathers since I lost mine thirty years ago. I am not.

I do not care about the points.

I am not in competition with others.

I answer in order to be of help most of the time.

I answer for entertainmint purposes some of the time.

I answer to be a smarty pants sarcastic irritant a wee bit of the time ( bad dave, bad dave ) . :'>

This place brings out the best and worst of people. It is like a microcosm of the world. Some are helped, some are teed off.
It is good to have this place to vent, help, and even to give sarcastic answers.

May the fun continue !

I think our main purpose is to help people.

I know we can't always change someone's mind .

Some questions that don't make sense, I ignore. We have to be patient and realize we might be dealing with people who have handicaps, visual, learning, spelling, the ability to express themselves, etc.
Therefore, I never put down anyone because they ask something like that.

I am appalled on the Religion and Spirituality board when I see "Learn to Spell" as an answer. Anyone's religion should keep them open to charity toward someone who might be limited . On the Genealogy board people who answer like that will get quite a few thumbs down.

I wonder if people who behave like that would do that if they were dealing with the person face to face. Just because we are anonymous doesn't mean we have to put our manners aside.

so you have ulterior motives in your answers. Why not just answer questions to the best of your ability? It is a free service and we get points not money.

So why do you always want your answer to be the best. Maybe you can learn from that.

If we were all full of knowledge and each one had the best answer, we would not need this forum.

Just answer for fun, to help others and not think of being the best all the time. It may work in your favour when you will stop trying too hard.

I'm right most of the time! And I think I may have some type of influence on people. I like to help, and this is a fun way to do that...and pass some time at work!

It is for the sheer joy of speaking your mind and sharing with others what you feel, just the way you have done now. Best answer may or may not come as a bonus but then who really cares.

I am so sorry for your losses. My father passed away 30 years ago also. I miss Him.

My answer is the same as Dave777's as to why I am on this site.

I have had many answers chosen.

I wonder why you have no father or husband. Don't be bitter. Be happy you have two children. Teach them to love the grandfathers and father. Since they are not there, they can't dissappoint them.

Sometimes I am just amazed by the stupidity and I have to comment, and I don't care about the best answer. Soemtimes I do think I have a good answer though!

My God, I hate the downright stupidity of users. When I see a question that blatantly displays their ignorance, my blood pressure rises a bit and I ignore that question.

So who do you think answers in the search for points ? Would only be a very very small minority.
