How about the fact that our Gov uses technology in a way that makes it so our enemys can not sleep during battle? I dont understand how a person can feel right about denying the enemy sleep inorder to win a battle. If thats how we treat our enemys why sould we expect them to treat us better?

I guess my main point is that some weapons are better off not used in battle. Of course we dont want our troops to die but do you really want to cause your enemy pain and suffering before they die? I personaly dont see any real difference between useing a sound weapon that doesnt allow your enemy the chance to sleep vs useing chemical weapons that remove there ability to actualy go to sleep. Its basicaly just torture and not very sportsman like. Of course who cares about being sportsman like in war I mean it is about just winning and not how you win right?

Depends what you mean... I have no problem with them denying the enemy sleep to win a battle. That's good, sensible use of strategy for a change. If they don't want to be kept up, maybe they should leave the battlefield and stop fighting?

What I do have a problem with is using prolonged sleep deprivation to torture people who are in military jails. Don't think sleep deprivation is so bad? Try going a week or two without sleep and then tell me that... tends to start to drive you insane.

War is war. You are not there to die for your country, you are there to make the enemy die for his country.

Keeping the enemy up might seem harsh, but it is far better than using traditonal nerve gas, land mines, and nuclear weapons. Enemies that are suffering from sleep deprivation have a harder time targeting our troops. It also helps to break down communications so that reinforcements do not come in to strengthen enemy positions.

The concept of keeping your enemies awake is an old one. Why face fresh-faced and well rested enemies when you wear them down with fatigue?

This was done in WWII and the Korean conflict. What is wrong with it. We need to help ourselves more. Would you want the enemy a good night sleep while you son was on guard and the next morning the Enemy well rested kill your son who is tired from guarding ,in cold blood??Get real

War is hell. The object is to destroy the enemy. It is not a game with gentleman's rules. If we can cause the enemy to lose concentration, they will be easier to defeat. If we defeat them more quickly, the chances of serious injury or death on both sides is lessened!

I think this is a great idea!!

It doesn't scare me. It somewhat annoys me that people choose an ignorant path in life and refuse to want to research this.

"If thats how we treat our enemys why sould we expect them to treat us better?"

You shouldn't. Considering how America does war, people shouldn't expect anything good from the other side. Sleep deprivation is nothing compared to the countless carpet bombings the US provides to its enemies.

And either way, those technologies are completely useless in modern combat. We've come to a time when guerilla warefare is the way to go when it comes to defeating large standing armies (like that of US, UK, etc...). So, you can't use that against an enemy you can't identify. Those techs are completely useless in Iraq and Afghanistan where the enemy is hidden well.

Darling, this isn't a boxing match. The Marquess of
Queensbury will not be looking on with scorn.

The saying "All is fair in love and war" applies here.

By your logic,the arrow,the long bow,the gun,the automatic
gun,the aeroplane, etc were all in terribly poor taste.

Please read: "On War" by Carl von Clausewitz,it was
written in the first half of the 19th century, but it will help
you immensely.

PS--Do you really think 'the enemy' has a great deal of
respect or compassion for ANYONE,including their own
people?

I have to agree with you. There is no honor in battle anymore; in WWII, for instance, it was important to act honorably. Even if your opponant didn't. Especially if your opponant didn't. Now everyone hits below the belt, with the justification that fighting dirty is done because that's what the other guy does. (A preemptive kick to the balls, if you will). It's scary when NO side has honor.

I guess it boils down to whether or not you believe that the end justifies the means.

We should provide them with sleep number beds and a soothing glass of warm milk. Or we can try the old fashioned way of winning a battle - kill them all. These technologies are designed to reduce killing on the battlefield. If depriving them of sleep lessens their will and ability to fight, go for it.

No, you know what scares me is the fact that Americans today can't speak properly. The use words like "ain't" and phrases like "alls I know." We have high school graduates that can't spell, read or type. You wrote the sentence " I dont understand..." When did you buy your keyboard? Was the apostrophe optional on the keyboard that year? I am just wondering because "dont" should actually be "don't" to be correct, but you are sooooo educated you probably know that. Right?

Depriving the enemy of sleep is pretty much the best idea ever.
