Is the chihauhua truly yours? Or is it always looked after by your mom? I can see then, why she won't let you take it with you.
However, if you have been looking after it, paying the vet bill and food bills, feeding it, cleaning up after it, take the dog with you. Just get a good place that accepts dogs, and remember to give your pet lots of exercise, love, companionship and good food and water.
As for leaving them behind. Yes, it's very sad, and I can understand how the thought is distressful to you.
When my husband and I divorced, we had to sell the country home and I had to move into a townhouse in the city. I had two small dogs, one large dog, and two cats. I realized I couldn't look after the large dog and could only afford one cat. The large dog (lab) deserved to stay in the country. I felt the small dogs would adjust (it was hard). So, I ended up finding a very nice home. I never, in my whole life, ever had to give up a pet. I was now 40 years old and it was the first time I had to do it. I lost one cat and the lab. Both to good homes. But, it broke my heart and I cried a lot.
Just remember that part of being a good owner and friend, is doing what is best for your furry critter. You can always come back to visit them. And, they will adjust.
I'm assuming your mom will keep them aok? Then you won't have to worry about how they are being kept.
Good luck, and my heart goes to you.

It is tough. I haven't had to leave any, but had many die over the years. But I was given a cat. It took a while for her to adjust to me and the dog, but in a month or so, it was ok. The cat considers me as hers. Animals probably adjust better than the people do.

as a Christian brother-a Jesus huggg to you
well you said b/f -first if he is a true friend-he will take your interests to heart even before his own. If you are not getting married or moving onto a Bible or other campus-bloom where you are planted-
remember this to others and yourself too "Jesus is my shepherd I shall not want, because Jesus will provide for all my needs." Psalm 23:1
If you are the caregiver to a pet-believe that Dod will work in your Mom's heart for the right timing for you to take your pet/s along with you.

They will be staying with your mom, so at least it isn't like you are really having to give them up. Just visit them when you can.

you should listen to the voice of your heart. Don't listen to anybody else and if for this you have to ignore your mother then just do it
