Starting a successful company is the popular image but more made their money in real estate or finance (managing other peoples money) or inheritance. Several hedge fund managers have made a billion in a single year.

Find a completely unsolved problem, solve it and be the largest provider of that solution. Bill Gates developed the PC, solved the information gap that people didn't even know existed and now basically owns the world of PCs.

An interesting idea would be figure out how to capitalize on the current immigration issue here in the United States. There are 13 million illegal immigrants that means that you need to come up with a solution that nets you $76.92 per illegal with some service or plan that helps them out. Obviously this has to be currently legal and ethical but I think there is a gap and all you have to do is fill it. A good start might be creating a job agency for the day when they are made legal because they'll want to leave their current bad job and go elsewhere. If you can place people for say $1000 a piece into various jobs that you would only need to place 1 million of the 9 million people into jobs.

Morality and law limit much of what you can do. Much of it is about opportunity, for example, Bill Gates. He had the opportunity to start a computer company, and he took it. Now hes the richest man in the world. Go out and buy the movie The Secret, this could help.

Being a scientist/doctor or relative field where you can work with the ailments of human beings could make you rich beyond belief. Find a cure for cancer, or better yet, AIDS, you'll make billions of dollars.

In today's present economy, there is no simple way unless your parents are billionairs, and you are an only child, Paris hilton comes to mind, and i love her.

However, following the rules of economics, you need to find a service or product that has enormous demand and sell it at a profitible margin. Unfortunately, entrepreneurship involves risk, and this is why we are not all rich.

Web applications seem to be a good way to get rich quick, but developing good ones is not easy. Playing the stock market is also a good idea.

Or there is my personal favorite: treasure hunting.

If that jackash Nicolas Cage can find the National Treasure, then anyone with a high school equivalent is also capable. This is because Cage is a moron.

good question
