When it's hot in the valley, the fog is usually drawn into SF-- unless there is a high pressure area off the coast, then it might be warm in SF too. A few years after I moved to SF, I got rid of my shorts and sundresses. Pretty much need to have a jacket year around because even if the middle of the day is warm, as soon as late afternoon approaches, you'll need it.
At least we have comfortable sleeping weather.
But the past few years, weather has been crazy.

Generally, the best months for the nicest weather in the Bay Area are May, September, and October. Of course, one can never count on the weather to be nice. After all, it is next to the Pacific Ocean, so anything is possible. Mark Twain once said, "The coldest summer I ever spent was in San Francisco".

Summer in SF is always cold and windy. The best weather is late spring and early fall.
BTW, Mark Twain never said that quote, constantly mistakenly attributed to him.

Frankly, you should count your blessings rather than complain. No snowstorms. No hail. No tornadoes. No hurricanes. No heatwaves.
And at least there aren't rain storms in June. I was in Seattle earlier this month on business, and it poured.
It was so bad that I didn't even bother to go to Capitol Hill for a late-night drink. Just stayed in the hotel and watched HBO.

It has been crazy hot during the day here in San Jose and even in Pinole. But yet cool at night. I hate the heat...I want the coldness back so I can cuddle with my man...but yet dry weather so I can go club/bar hopping in the castro. ;-)

news flash for ya, it is always cold and foggy in the summer in SF. it is very rarely warmer than the low 70s. the warmest time I have ever been to the city is in february.
if you want warm in summer, head inland to the east bay or south to the San JOse area.

Wait a minute! I keep hearing that it's always "fabulous" weather there. I'm in Seattle... and we have the drab weather full of drizzle.

October is the month for sun and frolic! Beautiful skies, fewer touristas, and views that go on for miles and miles!
