My wife has stopped wearing her wedding band and she is spending more time with her friends and colleagues. We talk but we don't communicate like we used to. I don't want a confrontation because it will make matters worse. Are we heading down the path of no return?

You need to risk confrontation and COMMUNICATE with your wife. Only she can tell you what she feels about your marriage. Not wearing her wedding band is a red flag that something is wrong. Maybe she wants you to ask her why. If you don't ask you will never know, until it is too late.

I don't know what she is trying to tell you, but I do think you should ask her. I can see why you do not want a confrontation, but is burying your head in the sand like an ostrich going to make the situation any better? You do not have to have an argument about it, just tell her, CALMLY, that you have noticed these things, and that they are worrying you. If there is something wrong, then it would be better to get it out in the open, so that you can both work on fixing the problem. If she is thinking of leaving you, wouldn't it be better to know about it now, instead of shying away from a confrontation, and just living in hope that you are wrong and that things will get better on their own? I think if you had to find out only a few months down the line it is going to hurt even more. Confrontation on matters like this is never easy, especially as you obviously want the marriage to continue. You are obviously in pain about the situation, and I honestly think that the sooner you get clarification, the better it is going to be for both of you. Who knows, maybe she is just going through a "phase", and can set your mind at ease! You not saying anything about it may even lead her to believe that you don't care. Good luck, and I hope things work out the way you want them to.

If you don't want a confrontation, you may not have a wife. It sounds to me like she is starting to cut ties with you both visibly (wedding band) and emotionally (spending more time with friends). Marriage is about communication and if you stand by and do nothing as she displays very obvious signs of a change in her character, then she could interpret that as you not caring.
Its time to get a babysitter, rent a room at a nice hotel and show her that she is the reason your heart beats.

Your wife wants a confrontation or she would wear the ring when she's at home. It's that simple.
