There are plenty of Maori legends here. Most give me goosebumps- like the waka that appeared on the lake right before the volcanic explosion that destroyed the pink and white terraces. There is one at a nearby ravine where a train went off the tracks in the middle of the night in the 40s. Apparently the residents still her the old whistle and clacking as the train comes along the now non-existent railroad. There are plenty of stories of Maori chiefs who still guard their land, especially around culturally signifcant sites. My friend says she saw the glowing red eyes of the chief on a mt and that she heard his chants as he chased her off the hill. She was pretty flaky but I still wouldn't go there at night!

Yeah, there's this creek near my house and everyone says something bad happened down there on Halloween night '84. According to legend, the rancher that was living at the house nearest to the creek (my neighbor's) had a calf run away. He was looking around the creek because he heard the calf mooing. He heard footsteps. He turned around. Before he could let out a scream, his wife who went insane chopped off his right arm with the rancher's best axe. She pushed him into the creek and soon he died of blood loss. Some say that if you go into the creek on Halloween night, you'll hear mooing. That mooing is the calf warning you that the ghost of the rancher will appear soon and you don't want that to happen. If the rancher's ghost finds you, he'll rip your right arm off so he can be complete again.

yes there is a house that is supposed to be haunted and is listed in the 100 most haunted places in california. Truth is I don't think it is haunted I just think people keep going to make it popular.
