Because you respect the house of God. Your 'best' doesn't mean it has to be flashy or the most expensive. It just means that you need to be clean, well kempt and modest. Remember that you represent the God you worship.

I wear nice clothes, not my best, but I want to look presentable, but some of the people that attend, wear some very interesting things, oh brother!

It just respectful to try and look your best when you are in a Church. However, the Church I belong to is very laid back and most people are dressed casually.

Out of reverence for God. Just like why we bow our heads to pray. God deserves our best because he gave his son and his life for us. Most churches do not require your best clothes anymore. Whatever makes you feel comfortable!!

honestly, i DID wear my best clothes to church but it's not me...i feel uncomfortable and like everyone is staring because it's not me. i just dress in normal duds to go. God doesn't care what i look like...why should they???
