When you reformat your drive everything on it will be permanently erased(including your windows files). You will not be able to use the emachines restore disk on the other computer. Trust me. I have an emachines restore disk and i tried to use it on another gateway computer and it would not install correctly.
In order to reinstall windows, if you decide to reformat the drive, you would need a windows install disk (which you might be able to borrow from someone) and you would have to use the product key found on the back of your Toshiba computer.

No, when you reformat your harddrive, absolutely everything disappears, and your computer will have no operating system. You most likely cannot use your emachines restore disk because that is designed only for that computer. How ever, if you just have a windows XP install disk (NOT a restore disk), then that may work, but you're going to have a problem if both computers are using the same serial numbers.

When you format your hard drive it destroys your Master Boot Record which is a computer equivalent of a card catalogue for a huge library in side your hard drive. The data is still there (unless you do a wipe of randomized 1s and 0s) but it is totally disassociated from the file system which kept track of it. If you have all of your documents backed up, and then format the hard drive, you will have to reinstall your OS fresh from the system restore disk that came with the computer or from your OS disk if you own your own operating system copy. Be aware that you will need to redownload all the updates for that OS and possibly some drivers also. Furthermore, be careful that the virus you have is not a macro virus hiding in one of your documents or you'll be back where you started. To protect against this, install a really decent anti virus solution before you begin copying your personal files back unto this new install, so it can check the files as they come.

Come up with your specific problem.
Formatting is the last thing even a Professional tries.
If you have the original XP CD insert it .
select boot from CD.
Try the repair option. ( XP restore crash recovery disk to be used when you computer does not start ).
Para two : If you want to delete other confidential/personal data/pictures etc delete normally all to Recyclebin
Use ccleaner from http://www.filehippo.com ( use secure delete
so that the files cannot be recovered with any other undelete program).
RE Check with Recuva from http://www.recuva.com

yes when you format it, everything is lost. and yes you can use your emachine recovery disk, it should work. it is basically just xp, but with some emachine based stuff on it. like some drivers or emachine specific software.
you could chose to not install it. or uninstall it if you feel that it is useless.
if you are having trouble with your devices or drivers. you could visit you manufacturers (toshiba) website to get the right drivers. and everything should be fine

You will lose everything. Get a bootleg XP disk, wipe that ****, then install the bootleg XP. Emachines suck so much. Don't use the Emachine disk. They put too much extra **** on your pc.

yes it will competely erase the device.
Why do you want to reformat it? You should hook it up and transfer files you want to keep before formatting it.
Any PC should be able to read the drive.
