Zinc - just the generic stuff, not the expensive ZiCam. It really helps. Lots of hot fluids - hot green tea is a fave. And some vitamin C. And extra rest. Bodies that are rested adequately fight infection more effectively.

My colds usually start with lots of sinus pain and pressure, so a store-brand decongestant (phenylephrine HCL works well for me) and some ibuprofen.

Then, it just depends on my symptoms. I never buy brand-names...so next on my list are guiafenesin (sp) to break up chest congestion, dextromethorphan if I have a hacking or irritated throat cough.

BUT...if I'm good about taking the zinc and vitamin C as soon as I start feeling the symptoms come on, and get extra rest, I usually end up just needing some decongestant and ibuprofen, and I'm better in 3-4 days instead of being miserable for a week and a half. I hear this works well for some people, and not for others. I have yet to meet someone it didn't work for.

Nyquil. It will knock you out so fast, and that's crucial because of all the annoying symptoms you have. I use it sometimes just to sleep.
