Design your own religion around your beliefs and get 501(c)(3) tax exempt status from the IRS. The Constitution expressly says more about the protection of Religious rights than it implies over separation of church & state. How could Federal law deny gay marriage rights then? It can't. States would then have to follow suit. Ask any Federal Judge, they'd say the same thing.
Of course, i feel stupid telling you this. Fight fire with fire i always say. I'm sure the gay-passive-aggressive-athiest community can find common ground with the very institution they vilify. Even if it's just to get what you want.

Support the Marriage project at the Human Rights Campaign. They're lobbying congress.
Write your Congressman and your two Senators asking for a repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act. Write them every 6 months to state this is your concern. Ask your friends, family, etc. to do the same. They usually get only a few letters on issues, and they pay attention to their mail. Email also works, as do phone calls. Just include your full name (as on your voter registration) and your address (within their district).
Call in on talk radio when the topic is relevant.
Encourage your state to pass civil unions or marriage for same-sex couples. This is the way to work toward allowing the recognition of our unions nationwide--if most states are recognizing them, it will create a groundswell to have the Federal government also recognize them.
AND ABOVE ALL ELSE: Write the congress and your state legislature to keep the discrimination against our unions OUT OF THE US CONSTITUTION. This is abandoned right now, but the Republicans may bring it up again, and not all Democrats would vote against it. So it should never get out of committee.

We need to prove that we are normal people and deserve marriage rights like everyone else. We need to show them that it is good that we want to be in a monogamous relationship and that we are trying to be responsible. The easiest way to do this is to write and call our local congress people and share our thoughts. We can also have peaceful demonstrations to show them how important this topic is to us. We could also lobby our local and national congress people into working for us to get our rights protected.

While I want to do this, I'd like to point out that it sure isn't going to happen under the Bush administration. No way in hell. However, we can continue to work towards it by just getting out there and letting Congress have a piece of our mind.

get the religious right out of politics. They are destroying our country. They need to try and start fixing the problems in the church like child molestation and homosexuality. They need their side of the street cleaned up before they can lay any judgment in political policy.

Vote. Fight to have the bill put before congress. The only way to get it legalized (silly that we never had to have hetero marriage legalized) is to fight from the inside . And vote democratic.
