I'm moving into a townhouse soon that I have access to since it is vacant. I sniffed out the refrigerator and it has a strange smell present in the main part and in the freezer. I DON'T like it and I don't want to put food in it smelling the way it does. It's been cleaned, but something's still lingering (not rotten food, but some strange spice or something). I have always kept Baking Soda in mine, but I don't think that will do the job, since it was cleaned and all. Is there something more potent to take care of that weird smell? Help! Thanks!

I would clean it out with white vinegar. After it dries, you can try Fridge It- a natural carbon odor absorber that you just stick in the fridge. They work really well. They only cost about $2 and you can find them at Linens N Things, WalMart and Camping World.

it sounds like it may be a frost free refer-.Even though they are frost free they can still have ice build up on the inner parts and where the water drains from the freezer.
I would recommend defrosting by unplugging refer-,and letting it thaw out completely.Then try to find where the water drains from the freezer. Pour a light bleach water mix "1/4cup bleach to 1gallon water"down the place it drains.This is tricky sometimes.
After this make sure everything is completely thawed and dry.You can tell if there is any ice left by placing your hand on the top bottom and side walls of freezer. If it is still cold there may be ice build up still. You may have to let it set overnight.

I would do the Baking Soda routine but first I would use a Bacteria Enzyme. Eats proteins and it may be hard to find.
Might be called Odor Digester. A Milky White.
Maybe Home Depot has it but if not try the local Grainger, North Supply or Johnstone Supply

Good old Clorox will do the trick. Put a cup of Clorox in a gallon of water and use it to wipe out the inside of the fridge. If there is any odor left, buy a bag of charcoal (like you use in a grill). Put some in a box or bowl in the freezer and the rest of it in the fridge part and leave it for a day or so.

Try This. After washing it with Baking Soda. Wash It with Lime Juice. Tried & tested.

Clean it out with a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water. After you do that, let it air for about 5 minutes. The vinegar will smell strong while you're using it, but the smell will go away after a little while and so will the stink.

Spread coffee grounds inside of a large baking sheet and put it in the refridgerator uncovered for a few days. Worked for me!

Baking Soda is supposed to absorb odors. If I were you, I would open about 3 boxes and set them in there for about 24 hours of more.

Arm & Hammer baking soda-- just keep the box in the fridge-- it absorbs the scent-- most grocery stores carry a Special refridgerator one that has extra strength.

You have to remove everything, pull the plug out and defrost, and thoroughly clean the inside with a good household cleaner. That should do the trick.
