You could just ask him. But, there are signs.

Have you been dating for more than 6 months? More than a year? Often, if it goes on that long and he hasn't show interest in marriage, he may not be interested. This is especially true if you guys are physically intimate - the old saying of "why buy the cow if the milk is free?"

But, communication goes a long way. Talk with him.

Ask him to marry you, set up the whole scenario and ask (you could get ring if you want, but not nescassary). What's the worse he'll say, No? Then he's not ready! Just say okay, well if you ever do want to, I'm open for the suggestion!! That way you end on a light note, without him feeling he needs to break up immediately.

Just ask him! Just say "Sweetie? I just want to know..how far would you like to go in this relationship?" and when he responds, you just simply say "The reason why I was asking is because I just wanted to know if you feel as though you're ready for marriage"....you can't rush a man to do anything. Just remember that. Alot of men run from commitment and that is the main thing that you dont want to drop too heavy on their heads cuz it will make them run.

If you have been dating for more than 4 yrs, it's really time to get married. Not wanting to marry you means he doesn't want to commit to you. That's bad. It means he's stringing you along. It's good to have a say in the direction your relationship is going. If he wants to carry on not being married for another 5 yrs, would it be acceptable to you? Speak up.

After a year it is time to talk about marriage. Just say something like "I would like to spend the rest of my life with you. Do you feel the same way?" If he says, "Yes," tell him you'd like to start planning a wedding.

Just ask. It's a normal question. If you can't discuss this type of thing then you might just as well break up and move on.

Just ask him. It is just like any other question you would ask someone you are getting to know. It doesn't have to mean that you are looking for a committment, just want to know what you are working with.
