My friend always tells me to maintain an odd number of fishes in my aquarium because she said it is a bad omen if you put even number of fishes in my aquarium. How true is this? And what is an ideal number of fishes in an aquarium for good luck? Any oriental beliefs please?

Do not listen to your friend for fish advice.
In 13 years of keeping fish I have never heard of odd numbers.
Yes some fish needs 6 or more for company of each other. but they are schooling fish.
How many depends on your tank size. The bigger the tank.. the more fish!!
If you keep your tank maintance up you will not have to worry.

Maintaining an odd number of fishes in the fish tank is only when u believe in "feng shui" in which this is very common in the oriental beliefs. If u believe,than keeping odd number of fishes will actually properous instead of the even number.So if u believe,than depending on the size of yr fish tank,maintain an odd number of fish and if one fish dies,u hv to replace as soon as possible. But if u dont believe,than its up to u to have how many fishes in yr tank u wanted to keep.FYI,9 is the best number of fish if u believe.

oriental belief states that you should not have 4 or 10 because they are homonyms for death. never heard of the odd or even numbers scheme though.

i've never heard of that b4 and i keep fish. and an ideal amount of fish to put in your tank depends on the size of your tank and what kind of fish you want to have.
