You have to remember that Germany and the Soviet Union had been allies in the beginning of the war. And that Hitler, ignored his alliance with Stalin and invaded the Soviet Union with aims of incorporating it into his New World Order. And the Soviet Union pushed the Germans out of the Soviet Union and marched all the way into Berlin. The Germans ended the European theatre of the war in Berlin and it is logical that they would occupy the areas they liberated from Germany. Germany wasn't the only country occupied by the USSR. Also, even before the end of the war, the big 3 (US, England, and Soviet Union) had already decided that Russia would control part of Germany - occupation zones were carved up all over Europe.

Post War -The Soviet Union was bothered by the US, British, and French consolidating their own territories in Germany. This angered the USSR and led to many problems between soviet occupied Germany and western controlled Germany. The USSR wanted to be sure that its part of Germany would be a strong ally against the US in the cold war.

Obviously Germany invaded Russia and inflicted millions of deaths. That's enough to fear them.

They lied and made a nonagression treaty they never had any intention of keeping and they invaded Russia, which resulted in a lot of destruction and the deaths of 20 million Russians. Also, Stalin was really, really pissed.
