Why does it seem like people like to pass time with idol chatter?

I hardly meet "Real" people that share my same interest. One of my favorite shows is Frasier. To him everything must mean something and that's my point of view too. My view of God is understanding everything about creation and confirming his existences. I seek truth through all avenues of intelligence.
Religion,Science,Astrology & Psychology. People seem to think that if you know about one topic it cancels the other.

These are topics I think about, not many people relate to this.

Why are these things on my mind?

Kaliki,
That's what's so amusing about Frasier. The whole dilemma is one step up 2 steps back! The more he elevates himself the lower he becomes, it's a struggle to balance his intelligence and his lower nature because at the end of the day he belives intelligence saves the day and actually life is not that complicated. That's why his brother (the innocent good fortuned guy) gets on his nerves & dad (the blue collar mans, man) can't relate. They are there to show the contrast.

At least every episode he learns his lesson and solves his issue. It's so funny! That's a show where I get to laugh at myself! I'm often guilty of his ambitions.

Great writing and entertainment!

I feel the same way about useless conversations

Alot of people don't want to talk about such things because
1.) they don't want to be judged or scorned for thier believes and
2.) they don't want to make anyone else uncomfortable; they don't want to offend anyone
3.) Many People are stubborn, and won't give light or listen to anything other then what they believe (I'm right your wrong kind of people)

there is nothing weird about liking those subjects, that is actually a really good thing that your interested, don't second guess yourself, feed your hunger for knowledge, You might just be the next great Philosopher

I too was a "Frasier" fan. It was sophisticated humor, not ur silly slap-stick comedy. Today`s generation of younger people never pick up a newspaper or listen to a news broadcast or informative TV programs, instead it`s all about celebrity gossip, rap/rock music, make believe game playing.etc. All shallow live for today, feel good kind of existence. It`s frightening how little people know about world events, ever watch Jay Leno`s, "Jaywalking" ?? That`s an eye-opener, he interviews ordinary people on the street with simple questions or pictures of famous places or people. It amazes me when a school teacher has no idea who Betsy Ross was or who was the first president of the US. I don`t know ur age, but if u r trying to converse with someone 18/30 ur not going to find many who r into the topics u care about. I say, not all, but many. It seems few take anything serious anymore, no thought is given beyond ones own small world.

i agree with most of these people here. im not really a watcher of frasier but im totally with you on all of those subjects. you have to have an open mind to whatever they are equally. i think some how all four of those subjects are intertwined. ive always been religious but ive broken away from the church. now i would say im more spiritual. i want to go to school for councelling because ive lived with and around these things my whole life. ex, stress, anxiety, depression.and the past 8 years ive been paying very close attention to how astrology pertains to the way people interact and the compatability of peoples personalities. there is a way ive seen that different chinese signs interact with each other. it is getting late but maybe you could email me if your interested and we could exchange wisdom. or as much as we can offer each other. skysmama77@yahoo.com

Firstly, I commend you for seeking meaning in life and searching for the "truth" in so many areas that affect our lives.

As for why so many people do not share the same curiosity, I have asked the same myself. I think there are several reasons:

1) many people take the path of least resistance. Questioning things and contemplating issues in life can just be too difficult.

2) people are just too busy making ends meet and bringing up families to contemplate those issues.

3) my government in the past decade or two have implemented policies (eg. lack of funding in higher education and more on defence), and used tactics of fear to the point where it has dumbed us down (myself included! Sigh), to the point where I'm not even sure many people today are capable of philosophising and having their own internal debate to arrive at a sensible conclusion/opinion/belief of what is going on in the world; and

4) partly the media, with its worship of celebrities and celebutantes (who appear to lead rather unextraordinary and meaningless lives, eg. Hilton).

To find like-minded people, perhaps you can start your own discussion groups, either on the web or once you have found enough participants meet at a local cafe. Set a topic that you think is interesting and hope other like-minded people will join the discussion.

As for why you seek the truth, it's just the way you are. And there's nothin' wrong with that.

Good luck.

You are a truth seeker and are to be commended.
There are plenty of people out there who are on the same wave length as you, you just need to know where to look.

Your understanding, beliefs and morals lead you to a way of being, to your philosophy of life.
You feel alone at the minute, that no one shares your understanding, but this is not true.

I did a bit of research on this and found that the quaker movement have been searching for truth in this way for hundreds of years. They have many famous thinkers from all walks in life in their organisation.

They are intellectual thinkers who are not bound by creed and dogma but welcome truth from whatever source. They are also out there doing, protesting, getting involved not just preaching, they run lots of charities, peace movements, schools etc. The organisation itself has been awarded a noble prize. Well worth a look.

That's ok you can do what you like. Yes I like a good gossip about these subjuects to ==Religion,Science,Astrology & Psychology. Most folk think of these as taboo, mainly because the ignorant need to get into and arguement about why these should not be discussed.
Does this help?

Because people are boring nowadays. Face it, why is Paris Hilton so popular? She hasn't invented the cure for AIDS. She's just good looking and that's the only reason she gets any attention. Our culture is just based shallow ideals like looks and money. All men ever talk about is sex and violence. And nobody talk's about anything meaningful anymore because there's nothing meaningful anymore to talk about.

I agree with you. It can be very annoying to endure idle and boring chatter all day. People with subtle innuendos about really worthless conversations, revealing they shallow likes and lives. They talk about things that interest them, but they are no interest to people like me. In fact, these conversations can be very shocking.

Yeah I know what you mean, I see a lot of that too, shallow minds. I guess that's just how some people are made, like they just have just one belief about stuff and just go on with their lives.
I love all of those subjects and think about them a lot. Don't criticize yourself for being introspective, you should love who you are!
