i have noticed that some kids are having sex when they are like 13 or 14. i have heard from my parents that having sex when you arent mentaly and emotionally ready for it can have effects on you when you get older, is that true?
when do YOU think kids should start to have sex?

When they're married. Wouldn't you want it to be with the one special person you want to spend the rest of your life with? I know I will!! Plus, I don't want to take a chance of getting an STD or getting pregnant!! Your parents are absolutely right!!

As many others said, wait till you are married! If a man says he loves you and suggests having sex before you are married you should positively say no. If he breaks up with you, he clearly didn't love you and you are so much better off.
Then when the man that you love and that really loves you comes along, he will wait for you until you are married.
Having sex before marriage is totally not in the best interest of the girl. Often she gets pregnant and many girls end up having an abortion especially after finding out the guy didn't love them after all. If I were a woman, I sure wouldn't want to tell my future husband about a bad decision like this and if I didn't tell him, we would never be as close as we could have been otherwise.
Why mess up your life? Wait for a very special man and have a great marriage later!

I was 15, I am now 21 and have only had sex with 2 guys, my ex from age 15-17 and my husband from age 18-21. I also got pregnant at 18(planned) and now have a 2 1/2 year old baby girl named Lily. But yes it can be hard for girls who have sex and get dumped the next day. 90% of guys are looking for that one thing, sex. And they'll dump you right after. Remember also that there are STD's. There is a movie coming on Monday night at 9 called Girl Positive, it is about a girl that gets an STD. maybe you should watch it. it comes on lifetime. There is also a movie called mom at sixteen, check it out also. Please don't rush into sex.

I lost my virginity when I was 16, almost 17 and I don't regret it. I was with the guy for 6 months, we had a great relationship, he was VERY sweet about it, and we used protection. We aren't together anymore because he moved to Massachusetts...but I don't regret it. He was a great person to lose my virginity to. And your first time really sucks and it hurts, so I think it would totally ruin your wedding night if you waited til you were married lol. I respect people who wait until they're married, but let's face it, most of the world doesn't. Just because you have premarital sex doesn't mean you're a slut. But as far as the age thing goes...I think 13-14 is too young...probably like 16 or 17, but it's not like as soon as you turn 16 you're ready to go out and have sex...it depends on other things, like the person you're with, and your maturity level and all of that. And I wish you guys would stop talking about the getting pregnant thing, there are tons of kinds of birth control out there, it's not that hard to prevent pregnancy people! Why do you think the Trojan Man is rich??!? lol.

When they are married!!! I think its really sad that young kids have sex. Its almost like sex has lost all its meaning and value in America. I don't think kids and teens understand all the things that come with getting emotionally and physically intimint.

Once you a married. I mean what in the world is the point of a honeymoon if you have already slept with someone.
I waited and didn't regret it, was 18 & still married to the same wonderful man for 13yrs.

Your parents are right. Sex is more than being physically able. Kids should not have sex anytime! Only consenting adults should be having sex.

in my opinion kids should not have sex until they are ready for it. out of school and be sure they want to have sex. 13 and 14 year olds i think just do it cuse they think its fun and that they are ready. but than when they get pregnant they are all freaking out.

i was one of those kids having sex when i was 13 because i thought it was cool... now i regret it... so now i think you should have sex when there ready for it like around 17 and older.. people are having sex way too young in this world... anyone agree?

You can't put an age on sex. It has to do with how mature each one is. Just this weekend my 12 yr old sister was asking me how to have sex with her boy friend. It makes me SICK!! At 12 yrs old. She is still into 8yr old things so in her case hell NO!!
I do think it causes emotional problems. When I asked my lil sister why she wanted to have sex so young she said She didn't want to lose her boy friend or not to be one of the cool girls. If she does have sex at this age I fear she will have many partners due to not feeling someone will be with her.
It's our duty as parents to let our children know they shouldn't have sex for the wrong reasons. They are going to have sex weather we like it or not. But we can help them mature and know when its the right for them.
