When I did it, I didnt really have to do cart-wheels. But we did do alot of hand springs. That was cheerleading. In gymnastics, try to specialize in an event that doesnt involve flips(avoid the floor routine) Good luck hun, but realize that if you want to be the best, you might have to break a nail or two.

Hey! umm, your a bit girly hahaha. but for cheerleading, sorry but no long nails are allowed. you will break them. try and get a short french manicure instead, like i do!
anyways, you dont need to have any tumbling/gymnastics skills to be a cheerleader. however, that is if you want to be a beginner, obviously for like your school. because all-star leagues are way out of the question. (you need to have been doing cheerleading all your life to try out) so like its ok if you dont know how to do a cartwheel but i think its best if you try to learn one if you try out. because sooner or later in your cheer careeer, you will learn to tumble. and if you cant handle it, dont even try cheer. because its harder than you think it is. its not all about jumping around ok? so if i were you, and you are serious about joining a cheer team, breaking a nail would be the LAST thing i would think about.
anyways, just try out for a spot and they will tell you what you need to know. most of the time they just teach you cheers/chants, jumps, dances for the tryout. but you probably will soon learn cartwheels, roundoffs, and maybe even back handsprings if you ever do join a squad!
so, best luck in the future~ i would seriously stop worshiping those nails.

if you don't want to break your nails you shouldn't be a cheerleader... there are much more demanding things that could "break your nails" other than cartwheels, like stunts! Trust me, cheer leading is no "beauty contest" It is tough work, if you are not prepared to work hard, you shouldn't even try out!

well yes these are what getsw you in first place during cheerleading. and the best thing to do for your nails is constantly cutting them this will keep them neat and you can always grow them later
cheerleading comes and goes but your nails will always grow

You have to cut your nails off to cheer. I inspect all my kids' nails every so often at practice because long nails are dangerous. Piercings are right out also.

No, you don't need to be able to do gymnsatics stuff but you must be able to do at LEAST a cartwheel because that's what people are looking for. Don't worry about your nails!
