It's a code that's created by computer nerds. once its downloaded to your computer (by website or email attachement) and it has been opened or executed, the program is designed to shut down or disable other programs on your computer.
Or it might corrupt files (make them useless). Computer programmers that make these viruses are very smart and need to find better things to do with their time.
