Wouldn't it make a whole lot of sense to let into the country educated people who earn very good pay and can pay a lot of taxes --- instead of low-educated, low-wage illegal aliens?

You nailed this one, my friend.

I'll take tax paying professionals any day over non-tax paying criminals. Call me crazy....

Just like the root of so many stupid things going on in America, this one can be traced straight back to political correctness and special interest groups paying off members of congress. Mix in the ACLU loonies, and you can see why all this is happening. Of course it would be far more beneficial to this country if we screen and thoroughly vet all applicants from countries with ties to terrorism, as well as individual applicants by what they can contribute in comparison to the skills this country needs. That's common sense, which loses out to multiculturalism and political correctness every time.

When I was a teenager, my job history included mowing lawns, bussing tables, and cooking in restaurants..... and I'm a college educated, white male, computer programmer today. I'm sure this brings a snicker to the face of limousine liberals, but the fact is that just because spoiled rich kids in the Hollywood hills won't work construction or in a restaurant doesn't mean normal American citizens won't do it.

Exactly HOW FOOLISH IS AMERICA.

That's who you should be blaming, so go answer my question now and give us a solution.

How can you have a democracy when the people have no say in how the country runs?

--And just who is big business but more government own buddies?

--Yes, send them here...we don't mind...we love Mexicans and they love us. It's our favourie vacation spot and has been for decades.

They are more than willing to clean our homes, work in factories, watch our children, while we go out and earn our fortunes.

AND JUST FYI Illegal...you can thank FREE TRADE (again American policy) for that lovely drop in salary.

Even here in Canada most people earn $10 an hour...very few make more unless you are well to do with a university education...because we gave our our business away to foreign countries...so they pay slave labour and all the big corporations get rich...so no more middle class.

See? America has had a major impact on the world for quite some time...but never for the better.

More highly skilled professionals would create market pressures which would reduce the fees that they could charge so the powers to be aren't going to let that happen. On the other hand the more unskilled, legal or otherwise you let in the less you will have to pay them. Would have thought that was pretty obvious.

Have you looked for a job lately. I been looking for over an year and most jobs pays $10.00 per hr or less. I made that much 20 years ago. Illegal has cause all jobs to pay less and this is helping to destroy the middle class.
Let secure the Border then let talk about a work program, not to make them citizens.

My friend, you are not thinking like a corporation.

Highly skilled people cost a premium. You only want to hire just barely enough of them to get the job done.

For profit margins though, you go for the lowest you can find. And you don't find anything lower than the poor and desperate immigrants. They'll do the same job for a fraction of the pay that Joe Sixpack will.

Corporations LOVE illegal immigrants. They avoid paying overhead and pay them dirt to boot.

You're drinking the kool-aid if you think this is an act of kindness or compassion. This is just another form of corporate welfare.

Well educated professionals ARE trying to come here. I work with a lot of them who are here on student visas. They love it here without exception and want to try and stay here. However, immigration has them jumping through hoops while trying to legally gain permanent status while we're ready to grant amnesty to unskilled lawbreakers.

Very foolish but the idea is that businessmen can make more money and then donate it to a business friendly representative's election campaign.

I consider myself a liberal, but I couldn't agree more on this one. If they came illegally, they need to be returned home so they may come legally. I have no problem with immigration, as long as it is done according to the law. And I couldn't care less about their financial status.

My guess is that the well-educated professionals you seek don't need to come here.

I would rather see us enforce the laws on the books before passing any new laws.
