I would say that the average height for a Div 1 basketball player is probably around 6'6". You figure that not many players are under 6' (at least not the starters). You also figure, while there are some 7 footers, there are less centers and guards and forwards. 7' is still a rarity, a lot of teams settle for 6'10 centers. That means most players are between those heights.

I would love to hear some girl opinions. The WNBA is sometimes painful to watch but if you seen more than one game, some of them are really good. I have female basketball players in my family that would take you all to school. And I'm not contradicting myself either because I know that certain Division I teams can beat a WNBA like that. Girls can play ball too. They have jump shots too. If I remember correctly, Swin Cash of the Detroit Shock hit a half court or full court shot for the haier shooting stars challenge with Chauncey Billups and some other guy who played for Detroit. I bet all of you watching at home were shocked that she could even shoot the ball behind the three point line. Another crazy female basketball player, Candace Parker, could lace a couple of guys in basketball and she's only at the college level(she's 21!). All I'm saying is that you gotta have respect for Womens' Sports( not just basketball, sports!). So all you guys need to stop riding on us for doing our thing! Yeah, Girls got Skills! By the way frequency 99, the tallest player in the WNBA is 7'2 (Margo Dydek).

the heights vary by position , and league
for example you can play center at the Liberty Conference or eve nthe Naval Academy at 65'- 6"7" , you can play inthe post in the ACC however at 6'9 or better. The average forward at any level is 6'4 -6'9" and gurards range from 6'4" and lower. The one thing coaches cant teach is height, so the shorter you are the more skills you need to have.
my perfect height team would look like the Florida gators they have theperfect average heights at every position, accept shooting guard. He is a little too short at 6' and the pg is 5'10 but they can shoot. but they go 7' , 6'10' 6'8" across the post positions.
