Run "check disk" check both options and restart. (runs a long time)

Updates windows, virus and spyware scan, disk cleanup, disk fragmentation (if needed), backs up registry and then cleans registry, and checks for open firewall ports

Start> Run> enter "sfc.exe /scannow" in the run box.

always start your computer in safe mode to do a disk clean up and a defrag, that way nothing is in memory,, your working from dos (disk operating system) which will work better and faster...
