As of right now Intel Quad Core is the best. However, if your stating a new build I would hold of for a few months. AMD is coming out with a new processor (Quad Core). It will shatter all Intel Processor performances. The new CPU will have a dedicated L3 Cache and completely redesigned architecture. It will allow for the four cores to work independently for amazing speed.

The easy ware is to check the most expensive computer at alienware.com. It always has the fastest processor. This one will set you back over $1000 usd.

well if money is no object go with the quad core xeon clovertown processor @ 3 ghz
