Well, as far as I know there are a few directories (i dont know specifics) that will allow you to find someones number. Also it's possible to use internet "detectives" to find it out. It can be very hard to get a truely un-traceable un-listed number. If it is that important to you try Disposable cellphones (i.e. boost, virgin mobil, etc)

There are many ways someone can find your phone # even if it is unlisted. Someone who is harrassing you cannot be expected to be truthful about how they found out.

Do you know what caller-id is? If you phone some place, it can leave a record of what phone # you called from.

Do you use portable or mobile phones, or have cellular on same phone line as your home computer getting to the Internet? Did you know that is like a radio broadcast that people can listen into? They use like a police scanner to find phone lines that are active, and have machines to convert computer signals into textual content. This is illegal most places, but unenforced.

Perhaps there is someone you think you trust, who gave out your phone # to someone else.

Perhaps there is someone you needed to give your phone # to like at work, or to open an account, and that place has untrustworthy employees.

Perhaps someone broke into your home & jotted down info about you.

Perhaps someone got access to your snail mail before it got to you, and recorded information from there.

Is your phone # on your checks? Change your checking account to list minimal information.

If someone was to call your old phone #, would they get a message saying what your new # is?

maybe another friend? your parents? cousin?

when a friend of mine moved, i called her old number and the operator came up and said "This person moved to a new number blah blah blah..." and it gave me the new number the person moved to.

But don't be scared. With all the new technology and everything, they would've figured your number out anyway. It's just a number.

1) Maybe someone that does know your number gave it to them.
2) Maybe they work for the phone company or has a friend that does. The records are easily obtained if you work there. You'd need to have a friend there that doesn't care about confidentiality (a big no no and grounds for termination).
3) Maybe they have access to your work records
4) Maybe they listened in to your conversation with the phone company when they told you your new number.

I've run out of ideas. What do you think?

i have looked on the Internet on people locator's and find people you just have to know where to look. telemarketers call random numbers and usually ask for someone name( who used to live at your location) if you say no ,this is the James resident , the smith don't live here anymore, then the person apologized and hangs up and the next time they call they got your name to match the telephone number and if you look in the telephone book certain areas have a certain start-up number like 667, 785, 556 and so on .
